I started a group study of a book called “Made to Crave” tonight with a group from my church.  It is about the struggles that we face with food, our attitudes for it and how it can wage spiritual war on us.  Each week gives a word to focus on.
Week one: EMPOWERMENT.  How many of us know what it is to feel empowered when it comes to food?  What feelings do we have when we are faced with food temptations and tough choices?  Do we feel empowered to make good choices and proud of ourselves when we succeed?  When we “fail” do we feel guilty and bad about ourselves instead of empowered to make the next steps healthier?  So many people have such unhealthy relationships with food & we don’t even know it.  Food is not meant to be our satisfaction in life.  How many of us think about food 24/7?  Let’s be honest, we need to be empowered by our food choices, not enslaved by them.  We need to feel empowered when we make healthy choices, not deprived.  Think about it…what would make you feel empowered?  How can you change your relationship with food and your mentality in order to feel empowered?  Step one.  Think about it.
